Genos Ltd is a research-intensive SME located in Zagreb, Croatia. We perform contract research, contract analysis and service for numerous universities, hospitals and private individuals in Europe and overseas. Our fields of expertise are molecular genetics and glycomics.
Molecular genetics
Progress in genomic technologies initiated a new revolution in genetics, which is currently reshaping our view on life and opens numerous new possibilities in medicine, biotechnology and agriculture. Through our involvement in the development of forensic genetics technologies in the past decade and current participation in genome-wide association studies we are striving to continuously be at the forefront of research in this field. We actively purse translation of research results into new products and services, which we offer to our customers. In addition to molecular diagnostics, we perform DNA analysis for prenatal diagnostics, animal forensics and food traceability.
Glycomics
The majority of human proteins are modified by the addition of complex oligosaccharides called glycans. Due to its structural complexity and technological difficulties the knowledge about human glycome is lagging significantly behind the knowledge about the genome and the proteome, but in the last few years significant progress has been made. The glycobiology group in Genos has a strong background in the development and application of glycoanalytical techniques (over 30 publications in the past 5 years). We coordinated the first large population study of the human plasma glycome, and subsequently also the first study of the human IgG glycome. We are also a major partner in the large international consortium which performed the first genome wide association study of the human glycome. The group has also successfully applied glycomic analysis in various clinical studies, which resulted in five patents and one patent application.
